- Title
ALLE ORIGINI DI SANTA MARIA DELLO SPASIMO E DELL’URBANIZZAZIONE DI PALERMO: UN CODICILLO TESTAMENTARIO DEL 1354.
- Authors
Russo, Maria Antonietta
- Abstract
In a codicil dated 1354 Matteo Sclafani, count of Adrano, assigned to the monks of Santa Maria del Bosco di Calatamauro a viridarium with tower and chapel in Palermo near Porta San Giorgio to make a grange. From that first seat the Olivetans entered the city fabric and founded Santa Maria dello Spasimo. The documents relating to the viridarium allow to trace the evolution of the northern area of the city delimited by the city walls in front of Castello a mare and its transformation with the allotment and urbanization of the sixteenth-century.
