- Title
The Costs of Critical Commentary in Economics Journals.
- Authors
WHAPLES, ROBERT
- Abstract
The article explains the impact of critical commentary in economics journals, which is addressed on the prejudice of "American Economic Review" against commentary by experts. Tables published by the "Social Sciences Citations Index" show that critical commentary on articles of economics journals like "Journal of Political Economy" and "Quarterly Journal of Economics" have declined in citations a page. The tables also proved that the decline in commentary in journals is caused by supply shortage and innovations in the journals.
