- Abstract
In this article the authors discuss the importance of the increasing numbers of knowledge accumulated from various fields of intensive care and perioperative medicine. According to the authors, monitoring of physiological variables such as heart rate, arterial blood pressure, and venous blood pressures have been helpful in intensive care. The authors say that the extended monitoring with the pulmonary artery catheter (PAC) has resulted in a new understanding of critical illness.
