National Committee for the Compilation of Qing History
- Abstract
This article is a progress report on the compilation of Qing history. The first section of this article describes various stages of compilation. In 1914, soon after the fall of the Qing dynasty, the Draft History of Qing Dynasty was completed. After the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, three attempts were made to compile a Qing history, but it was not completed. In August 2002, the Community Party’s Central Committee, along with the State Council and Ministry of Culture, created a leadership committee for the Qing History Compilation with fifteen departments. During the last nine years, many experts in China and abroad have undertaken painstaking research. The second part of the article describes progress in each section of Qing history. The third part describes studies in thematic areas such as key historical figures and events. The fourth describes archival documents in China and overseas. The fifth describes the involvement of different ministries and departments of the Chinese government. The sixth describes the involvement of the academic community.
