The article presents a literary criticism of the short story series "Cranford," by Elizabeth Gaskell which was made into a book. Topics covered are the narrative theme focusing on the 19th-century concepts of masculinity, images of cross-dressing, the underlying implications of the cross-dressing of the male character in the story, the articles of clothing of some characters that signify gender constructs and the impact of the short story on readers and the career of a writer.
