- Title
One or Several Jane Eyres?
- Authors
ARMSTRONG, NANCY
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the novel "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Brontë is presented. It discusses how the rise of the novel had granted considerable political power to women as shown by the novel's heroine and main character who openly expressed her desire for identity, definition, meaning, and agency. It also cites several tenets of British liberalism that Brontë successfully negotiated with her novel.
