THE REVIVAL TABLE.
- Authors
HUTTON, CLINTON
- Abstract
In this article the author presents information about his remembrances of growing up in Jamaica and some of the rituals and practices of his parents and other adults. He recalls his mother's and her neighboring friend's habit of leaving some food outside after each evening meal and how that ritual became more complex when more people came together for the same purpose of feeding the unseen. As a child, he recalls being afraid of the spirits of deceased persons and learning some of the rituals that applied to them. The article pays special attention to a recollection of an elaborate feeding ritual referred to as the Revival table.
