- Abstract
A letter is presented from scientist Dr. Benjamin Franklin to the physician to Vienna's emperor, Dr. Ingenhausz with regard to the causes for the occurrence of smokey chimneys and the methods to resolve such an issue. It outlines the causes, which include the lack of air, their large openings in rooms and short funnels. Causes including building considerations, door positions and winds are also discussed.
