William James on Meliorism, Moral Ideals, and Business Ethics.
- Authors
STROUD, SCOTT R.
- Abstract
The article discusses the work of the philosopher William James, focusing on its applicability to issues of business ethics. Known for his lucid expositions of pragmatism, James is said to be a great resource for insight into the functions of normative moral ideals in the world of business. The concept of an ideal as a means of raising human actions from mere habits to the status of significant acts is discussed. The article primarily focuses on two issues in business ethics. These are the question of what constitutes integrity, and problems related to disparate methods of research.
