- Abstract
The article presents a profile and analysis of The Atlas Group Project, a photographic archive collection depicting the Lebanese civil war, gathered between 1989 and 2004 by the artist Walid Raad. A brief overview of Raad's work under the name of The Atlas Group is presented. Topics addressed include the ways which the collection engages and questions the authority and discourse surrounding the validity of archives, Raad's use of humor and fiction to communicate historical facts, and the role of the archivist or historian in maintaining the professional standards which define archives.
