- Abstract
The Deckbiss" (Class II:2) is treated most efficiently in the permanent dentition using the Herbst appliance as part of a MB-Herbst-MB approach. The proclination of the mandibular incisors that is often seen as an unwanted appliance-related side effect when it occurs in Class II, division 1 Herbst treatment is actually desirable in Deckbiss" Class II, division 2 treatment. Mandibular incisor proclination reduces the interincisal angle, promotes a stable vertical interincisor relationship, and consequently enhances posttreatment overbite stability. Due to the large relapse tendency after any Deckbiss" treatment, lifelong retention is necessary using bonded lingual canine-to-canine retainers in both dental arches.
