- Title
THE COLONIZER-FOLKLORIST.
- Authors
Naithani, Sadhana
- Abstract
The article presents information about Richard Carnac Temple, a British military and civil officer in colonial India, who collected folktales, legends, and versified tales in the west Indian province of Punjab during the last two decades of the nineteenth century. There are mentions about other folklore collectors also. The author proposes here a methodology of research that would redefine Temple's work. A comparative study of the two--the "nationalist" and the "colonizer" folklorist--would enrich the history of folkloristics.
