The article examines the strategies of several authors to write about the Siege of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 1990s. These strategies include imbuing the absurd scenes with irony or humor which is an unexpected in nonfiction. Other topics include Balkan-facing and outward-facing narratives and author Ivo Andrić's writing style.
