- Abstract
This experiment aimed to study the effects of astragalus codonopsis crude extract and benzoic acid on the intestinal health, serum antioxidant and anti-inflammatory abilities of Guangxi Lingshan native chickens. A total of 360 Guangxi Lingshan native chickens with healthy 78-day-old and similar weight were randomly divided into 3 treatment groups, each treatment group was set up with 6 replicates, each replicate was 20 chickens, respectively, the control group (CON group), the astragalus codonopsis crude extract group (ACE group), and the benzoic acid group (BA group). The CON group was fed basal diet, the ACE group was fed basal diet + 2 000 mg/kg astragalus codonopsis crude extract, and the BA group was fed basal diet + 1 500 mg/kg benzoic acid. The data reflected that: ① ACE group and BA group duodenal length was longer than CON group (P<0.05), the jejunal weight in the ACE group was significantly increased (P<0.05), and the ileal pH value in the BA group was significantly reduced (P<0.05). ② Compared with the control group, the ileal villi height was significantly increased in the BA group (P<0.05), the ileal crypt depth was significantly reduced in the ACE group (P<0.05), and the ileal chorionic ratio was significantly increased between the ACE group and the BA group (P<0.05). ③ Compared with the control group, the serum contents of GSH-Px and SOD, T-AOC and CAT in the ACE group were significantly increased (P<0.05), and the GSH-Px and SOD activities in the BA group were significantly increased (P<0.05). ④ Compared with the control group, the serum contents of IL-1β and IL-6 in the BA group were significantly reduced (P<0.05), and the contents of IL-4 and TNF-α in the ACE group and the BA group were significantly reduced (P<0.05). In summary, the addition of 2 000 mg/kg astragalus codonopsis crude extract and 1 500 mg/kg benzoic acid to Guangxi Lingshan native chicken can increase the length and weight of the intestine, reduce the intestinal pH, increase ileal villus height and chorionic ratio, and reduce ileal crypt depth, improve the serum antioxidant and antiinflammatory capacity, and improve the health of the intestine and body to a certain extent.
