- Abstract
Suggests that Walter Benjamin's theories of Messianic time as well as his theories of prelapsarian pure language resonate with a redemptive, Messianic strain in Wallace Stevens. Depiction of Messianic time in the poem "Notes Toward a Supreme Fiction"; Identification of divine language in Genesis as the original performative utterance by Benjamin; Conception of the supreme fiction by Stevens which inaugurates a use of language analogous to Benjamin's pure language.
