- Title
THE SELECTION OF SCIENCE PRINCIPLES SUITABLE AS GOALS OF INSTRUCTION IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
- Authors
Robertson, Martin L.
- Abstract
The article presents principles of science selected by elementary science specialists in the United States. The science specialists find that all substances are made up of small particles called molecules, which are alike in the same substance but different in other substances. No chemical change occurs without an accompanying energy change. Energy and matter can be transformed but they cannot be created or destroyed. The material forming one or more substances, without ceasing to exist, can be changed into one or more new and measurably various substances. All matter may change its state by releasing energy. Movements of air and solids on the earth are due to gravity plus rotation of the earth. The several kinds of food is used by the body in growing new cells, in rebuilding cells, in providing energy for the body activities and in doing work.
