Grundlegende strukturelle Unterschiede zwischen den Proteasomen aus Mensch und aus Plasmodium falciparum wurden entschlüsselt. Ein neuer Inhibitor zur Bekämpfung der Malaria, der durch ein selektives Anvisieren des Zielorganismus eine geringe Toxizität für den Wirt erreicht, wurde auf der Grundlage von Kryo‐EM und funktioneller Charakterisierung konzipiert. In Synergie mit Artemisinin bietet dieser Ligand eine vielversprechende Behandlungsmethode in allen Phasen des Parasiten‐Lebenszyklus.
