- Abstract
The linguistic dissertation "Insult - Discourses on Honor, Respect, and Integrity in the Continuum between Everyday Life and Law" examines the understanding of insults in everyday life and law. The author analyzes how knowledge about insults arises through everyday experiences, legal processing, and media mediation. The study includes qualitative interviews with perpetrators and victims of insults, as well as a quantitative survey on the impact of insulting expressions. The study also describes linguistic theoretical foundations on honor and the development of the concept of honor in the German cultural sphere. Legal regulations on insults are explained, and case examples are presented. The interviews provide interesting insights into the origin and processing of insults, although not all reported offenses are likely to be legally relevant.
