The article focuses on the widely used legacy terms for audio devices, which rely on metaphor to identify their function, are linguistic remnants of systems of oppression. Topics discussed include eliminating them would represent an important step toward a more inclusive industry; and linguistically, the use of gendered terms for audio connectors is flawed because it is metaphorical, and not literally descriptive.
