- Abstract
"Revolutionary Domesticity in the Italian Risorgimento: Transnational Victorian Feminism, 1850–1890" by Diana Moore explores the role of Victorian women in promoting Italian unification. The book focuses on five transnational women and their use of social networks, philanthropy, education, publication, marriage/motherhood, and document collection to enact political change. Moore's transnational approach expands the view of Victorian women's history beyond the UK and US, and challenges the male-dominated narratives of Italian Risorgimento history. The book provides historical context and utilizes a range of sources to analyze the subjects' commitment to Italy and their efforts to transcend social norms. Despite minor editing oversights and a lack of images, "Revolutionary Domesticity" is a groundbreaking work that contributes to Victorian studies and inspires future comparative histories.
