The article discusses the elements of rhetorical systems and emotional turbulence in the poem "Cadenus and Vanessa," written by Jonathan Swift. Description of the debate over love's decline which is cast in the form of a trial is offered, and terms of the narrative describing the sudden emergence of sexual passion of the major female character in the poem are examined. The poem's treatment of emotion is also touched on.
