- Abstract
Introduction. Devices for independent, unaided performance of remote cardiotocography (CTG) at home settings are becoming increasingly established in modern obstetrics. Their small size, simple application interface and high accuracy of records mean that women and doctors are increasingly choosing to use them during pregnancy, specifically when there is an increased obstetric risk. Material and methods. The paper presents original experience based on the material of 94 women who underwent cardiotocographic recording using the Sigmafon Carebits telemedicine CTG system at the Department of Perinatology, Medical University of Lodz (60 patients), and the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow (34 patients). In addition, selected technical parameters of the CTG device used were assessed. Furthermore, each pregnant woman completed a standardised questionnaire after the cardiotocography examination, giving her opinion on the device. Results. In conclusion, the CTG recordings made with the telemedicine Sigmafon CTG System device showed no significant difference in terms of quality and reliability, compared to CTG recordings made with the best stationary CTG device available in the clinic. The device used in the study provided records of a very high standard. The mean FHR signal loss from 94 studies was 5.58%. The telemedicine CTG device was very well received by the pregnant women, and the technique of performing the examination itself did not cause any major difficulties. Conclusions. Once a suitable strategy has been developed, telemonitoring in high-risk pregnancies can contribute to reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and therefore unnecessary costs, as well as the stress for the pregnant women resulting from their stay in the department of obstetrics.
