- Abstract
Chapter 1 of the book "Language Learning: A Journal of Research in Language Studies" is presented. It offers an overview of the book which discusses a study about the Somali communities of Minnesota. The book is aimed at connecting dimensions of literacy and language learning to gendered, religious and racialized identity. According to the author, educators will have a broader view of immigrant students who experience racialized environments of public schools and urban communities by understanding the experiences and views of the Somali youth.
