- Abstract
Contraception is used in order to prevent unintended pregnancy and to control pregnancy timing. Pharmacological contraception methods offer different efficacy rates, and different additional benefits. They also differ from each other through side effects, cautions and contraindications, through the reversibility and time of return of fertility and through type of use (oral contraceptive, implant, transdermal patch etc.). No method of contraception is perfect, so each woman must balance the advantages of each method against the disadvantages and side effects, and decide which method she prefers. That is why medical and pharmaceutical counseling is so important.
