- Title
Nanomaterials Show Unexpected Strength under Stress.
- Abstract
The article reports on a study which found that materials like silica are as ductile as gold at nanoscale. Conducted by several researchers from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Maryland-College Park, this research was performed through computer simulations of nanoparticle aggregates. The simulations demonstrated that the smaller the particles in the aggregate, the more ductile the material became.
