- Abstract
The article compares the plaque-removal effectiveness of two electric toothbrushes, Interplak developed by Dental Research Corp. and Braun D3 developed by Braun Inc. As reported, the sales literature of Interplak claims that it removes 85 percent to 98.2 percent of plaque. These claims are based on a number of published clinical tests which were carried out under artificial conditions, over relatively short time spans, and often with panelists chosen to represent small, specialized segments of the population. The result shows that the Braun D3 electric toothbrush is a bit more effective in plaque removal than the Interplak toothbrush. It works better on the lingual surfaces of the mandibular anterior teeth where plaque and calculus accumulation is maximum among dental patients.
