- Abstract
From the late 1960s onward, Canadian social protection began being amalga‑ mated with the tax report. However, this trend towards the fiscalization of social protection appears to this day to be poorly understood by the populations it targets. With a view to analyzing the public policies in this regard, we developed a colla‑ borative research project with agents involved in the placement of women in the labour market. That project confirmed the generally poor understanding of this dynamic of fiscalization. In this article, we will present this research approach and some of the tools utilized during the process. We will then review our own approach to understanding the fiscalization of social protection, starting with the universal basic income movement, which began approximately twenty-five years ago. In doing so, we highlight how this movement, which has inspired citizen mobilization, could allow contributing to popular education with regard to the fiscalization of social protection.
