- Abstract
The article looks at the history of government regulation of household appliance energy efficiency standards in the U.S. Topics include the impact of the economy on manufacturers, the voluntary adoption of energy and water standards by the appliance industry, and the requirement under the U.S. National Appliance Energy Conservation Act that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) find a balance between consumer needs, industry burdens, and environmental impacts of regulations.
