- Abstract
Inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometer was used for determination of total chlorine content in surfactants. The samples were processed, added with internal standard indium, and tested at wavelengths of 858.597 nm and 894.8 nm, respectively. At 858.597 nm and 894.8 nm wavelength and in the concentration range of 100~1 000 mg/L, the linear equations were y = 139.8x-2 136.7 and y = 128.1x-1 644.5, respectively, in which the correlation coefficients (r) were 0.999 1 and 0.999 0, and the relative standard deviations (RSD) were 1.76% and 2.06%. To test the practicability in daily detection, surfactant samples with different salt content from different manufacturers were selected to test at the wavelength of 894.8 nm, i.e., high-salt sample (NaCl > 4%), low-salt sample (NaCl < 1%) and medium-salt sample (NaCl 1%~4%). The experimental results were consistent with the test results from various manufacturers, and the spiked recovery rates were in the range of 93.40%~107.51%. In conclusion, this method for determination of the total chlorine of cosmetic surfactants is simple, fast, accurate, and operable in practice.
