I Am the Master of My Fate, or Am I?
- Authors
Noddings, Nel
- Abstract
In this article, the author discusses the complexities of the ethical relationships at the heart of teaching and learning. The author concurs with Michael S. Katz, emphasizing the relations of care on which learning and moral development depends. He reflects on young people who join the military right out of high school. He advises teachers to the study the mythologies of war and patriotism more honestly with students. He argues for the self-understanding that would permit students to maintain their integrity without resorting to self-deception.
