- Title
Boundaries of preimplantation genetic diagnosis: discussion by two leading geneticists.
- Abstract
The article presents the views of geneticists David Galton and Robert Peel on the choices and boundaries of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). The acceptance of PGD for monogenic defects such as cystic fibrosis by Galton and Peel is stated. They also stated the PGD should be available for disseminated breast cancers. They also stated that PGD differed from prenatal diagnosis and that abortion was not necessary with PGD. Their final view concerned the British Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority stating that its purpose was to promote legislation protecting patients from harmful procedures and commercial exploitation.
