- Abstract
The article focuses on the life of Samuel Gillock, a 19th-century journalist at "The Valley Star" in Lexington, Virginia. He was born on October 16, 1811 in Woodstock, Virginia. Both of his grandfathers were Revolutionary War veterans, in which served his attitude about the value of the Union. He used to work as an apprentice for a newspaper in Woodstock since 1817 as well as to Solomon Henkel 22 miles away from Woodstock. As he moved to Lexington, he was first employed at the "Lexington Gazette" and later joined at "The Valley Star" and became an editor and later proprietor of the publication.
