- Abstract
In this article, the author analyzes, on the basis of normative acts and published and unpublished archival sources, the evolution of the process of utilization of archival documents held in the Fonds of the General Directorate of the National Archive Agency through the lens of the European Union's recommendations regarding the right of public access to information. The article presents the main aspects in the field of the utilization of archival documents: by archivists for socio-legal purposes, for thematic research, for thematic exhibitions, for promotion in social media, and for the ANA website; by researchers in the reading room for scientific purposes. The author examines the statistics of the evolution of requests for access to archive documents, as well as the main topics explored by researchers in the period of 1993-2021. The article demonstrates the forms of the utilization of archival documents and comparative statistics for the periods of 1993-1999 and 2016-2021. It describes the types of documents researched for social-legal purposes, as well as the process of issuing certificates and excerpts from archival documents to individuals and legal entities. It presents an analysis of the entire spectrum of the use of documents that form the archival heritage the Republic of Moldova held at the National Archive Agency. This analysis identifies the main factors that contribute to the expansion of access to archival documents, which was restricted during the totalitarian Communist period for ideological reasons, and which in recent years has seen developed in step with the process of the democratization of society.
