- Abstract
This article discusses the importance of empowering people living with dementia to be active partners in conversations about their medications. The authors describe their process of co-designing a conversation tool called the PRIME tool, which stands for "PReparing people living with dementia and their carers to Initiate deprescribing conversations about Medications." The tool is designed to provide subtle cues to healthcare professionals to review the ongoing need for medications during shared decision-making consultations. The authors reflect on their partnership with a stakeholder group consisting of consumers and healthcare professionals and provide recommendations for engaging stakeholders in the co-design process. They hope that their findings will inform the development of impactful deprescribing research resources alongside consumer groups.
