- Title
THE FAUNA OF THE SANDY BEACH, VILLAGE BAY, ST. KILDA: A DYNAMICAL RELATIONSHIP.
- Authors

- Abstract
1. The statement by Martin that the sand at Village Bay, St. Kilda is impermanent has been examined in the light of a recent examination of the beach. 2. The fauna of the beach is poor in numbers of species, and, with the exception of Eurydice pulchra, in numbers of individuals. 3. Fresh algal growths were found to be present on boulders buried in the sand to a depth of 30 inches. Since algae are photosynthetic organisms, it must be the case that the boulders were uncovered recently. 4. Additional evidence regarding the impermanence of the beach has been obtained from direct observations of the level of the sand in different months of the year.
