- Abstract
In this study, AgVO3 photocatalyst (p-type) with low levels of AgInS2 (1–8 wt.%) was created for efficient CIP (Ciprofloxacin) removal when irradiated by visible light. Compared to pure AgVO3, specific surface area and bandgap energy (Eg) of the AgVO3 photocatalyst decorated with 8 wt.% AgInS2 nanoparticles (NPs) were reduced from 120 m2g−1 and 2.00 eV to 95 m2g−1 and 1.80 eV, respectively. The ability of the created nanocomposites to absorb visible light more efficiently may be largely ascribed to their lower bandgap energy. According to XRD (X-ray diffraction) investigation, AgInS2/AgVO3 photocatalysts containing 0, 1, 3, 5 and 8 wt.% AgInS2 exhibited average crystallite diameters of 12.0, 11.2, 10.6, 8.7 and 8.5 nm, respectively. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis suggests that incorporating a small amount of AgInS2 NPs to AgVO3 is unlikely to influence the crystal structure. The presence of AgInS2 NPs within the AgVO3 matrix was confirmed via detecting the lattice fringes of 0.240 and 0.267 nm, which are associated to the (121) and (112) planes for AgInS2 and AgVO3, respectively. Results declared that 2.0 g L−1 of the manufactured AgVO3 photocatalyst decorated with 5 wt.% AgInS2 accomplished the best photocatalytic degradation of CIP after 45 min of irradiation by visible light. It was revealed that •O2− and ●OH radicals played a significant factor in the destruction of CIP. The design of heterojunction including AgVO3 and AgInS2 enables exceptional photocatalytic effectiveness due to the effective carrier separation between such components.
