Head Start in Reading: The Monterey Plan.
- Authors
Parker, B. Ford
- Abstract
This article discusses the results of the Total Reading program in Monterey, California in 1968. The first two classes to use the program exclusively and for a full year were located in the depressed area. The groups, both first-grade classes, topped the District in scores on the Stanford Reading Test given in June. Granting that scores go higher on an individual, oral test than on a group, paper-and-pencil test, the results were considered gratifying. The Monterey Unified School District hopes to extend the program, and to formalize studies of results.
