- Abstract
This article published in Frontiers in Psychology explores the importance of healthcare organizations considering and managing patient expectations. Neglecting or not meeting patient expectations can lead to negative nocebo effects, which can have detrimental consequences for both patients and the organization. The article proposes three scenarios in which nocebo effects can occur within healthcare organizations and emphasizes the need for organizations to prioritize patient expectations. Additionally, the article discusses the role of front desk staff in healthcare organizations and the potential for conflict and negative effects when interacting with patients. It suggests that organizations can prevent nocebo effects by aligning their objectives with patient expectations, involving patients in decision-making, and training staff in effective communication and conflict management. This document is a list of references and citations from various sources related to patient care, healthcare management, and patient expectations. It provides valuable insights into improving the patient experience and the role of healthcare professionals in delivering quality care.
