- Authors
CRANDALL, JOSHUA
- Abstract
The article analyzes several poems including "Tuesday; Or, the Ditty" by John Gay, "A Town Eclogue" by Jonathan Swift, and "West-Indian Eclogues" by Edward Rushton. Particular focus is given to the ethnographic approaches used in 18th-century pastoral poetry. The author examines the relationship between georgic and pastoral poetry, It is suggested that pastoral poetry lent itself to the issues explored in modern literature, especially themes of spatial and temporal comparison.
