- Abstract
Bones, the mucosa, muscles, saliva and air are the voice's materials. The vocal instrument is alive and the repercussions of its biological nature are multiple. Flamenco singing requires specific strategies from the field of speech therapy, acoustics and physiology for efficient vocal care. The aim of this paper is to provide an action plan that the singer can follow in their everyday life to strengthen his/her voice. There are vocal risks that are specific to flamenco singers which include: ignorance about voice range; laryngeal pain when singing; forced ornaments; and resonance imbalances. Two lines of action are suggested to help manage these risks. The first comprises prevention guidelines such as checking effort levels; adapting the musical repertoire; or putting in place effective protocols to reduce inflammation. The second line consists of strengthening strategies such as vocal training in phono-respiratory coordination techniques or establishing warm up and cool down habits. This paper concludes that preventive treatments are the most effective for high-performance voices, such as those belonging to flamenco singers.
