- Abstract
The article reports on news stories related to medicine and the medical community. The percentage of workers that are required to pay a portion of any hospital bills which they receive jumped from 33.8% in 1999 to 54.7% in 2003. Researchers at the National Human Research Institute in Bethesda, Maryland found that gene mutations may contribute to the development of a neurodegenerative disease known as Lewy body dementia or DLB. The papers of Virginia Apgar, creator of the Apgar scale for infants have been added to the National Library of Medicine's Profiles in Science Website.
