- Abstract
The controversy over the concept of thematic unity and structural organisation of the Qur'ān has been a major issue among scholars in the field of Qur'ānic studies. This study offers a linguistic analysis of the Qur'ānic narrative of Yusuf/Joseph with a special focus on its formal cohesive ties which create a special texture of the Qur'ānic text. The purpose of the study is to highlight the way the Qur'ān creates coherence and cohesion in its chapters/surahs. The paper begins with a brief outline of studies on unity/organisation in the Qur'ān, moves on to explain the linguistic concepts of coherence and cohesion, goes on to explore coherence and cohesion in the Qur'ānic text, turns on to discuss the salient features of the Qur'ānic texture and concludes with some suggestions to keep in view while reading the Qur'ānic text.
