- Abstract
Mary Ann Booth, a resident of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, was America's first professional female microscopist. She gained recognition for her skillfully mounted microscope slides and proficiency in photomicrography. Booth was an editor for The Observer and Practical Microscopy and a regular contributor to The American Monthly Journal of Microscopy. She was also a member of various scientific societies and received honors for her work at international expositions. Her high-quality slides continue to be recognized in contemporary microscopy, and her collection is currently archived at the Springfield Science Museum.
