- Abstract
Access to information technologies constitutes a competitive managing advantage for the management improvements as for knowledge generating and innovation. This study aimed to analyze how the management of information can provide innovative improvements in a group of companies of the urban collective transportation in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. Analyses were based on research after the implementation of an electronic ticket system. To identify the results a Content Analysis was performed, which standardized the empirical data, creating a synthesis of the responses opinions and bibliographical data. The set of empirical findings revealed that revealed that the management of information by the electronic ticketing system in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, enabled the reduction of operational failures, improvements in services and control system and competitiveness maintenance as well as profitability. We also emphasize that the electronic ticketing system played a strategic role in allowing the use of controls that enhance the effectiveness of the system both by the companies and by the public authorities. The electronic ticketing system is considered an innovative way to manage the purchasing, sale and use of tickets in urban public transportation.
