The article focuses on midwinter excursions by Montanans using the Union Pacific Railroad to southern California to escape the Montana frigid winters in 1914 and 1939. It states that the excursions started by Senator William A. Clark to promote the Railroad's line from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles. It discusses the emergence of tourism in California with railroad special service, history of establishment of direct railroad services from Montana to California and the Butte Express.
