- Abstract
The article discusses a study which performed the cytotoxic evaluation of the powder of Spinacia oleracea in human liver hepatocarcinoma cell line using MTT assay. Spinacia oleracea is a flowering plant, which is commonly known as Spinach and is rich in antioxidants. Spinacia has also been used in Thai traditional medicine for relief to gastrointestinal diseases, urinary calculi, and lung and bowels inflammation. As explained, MTT assay is an indirect measurement of cell viability. The study results indicated that S. oleracea powder was not cytotoxic to HepG2 cell line over the tested concentrations.
