Time to drop the language of 'consensus'.
- Authors
Turner, Leigh
- Abstract
Presents author's views on the value of consensus in bioethics literature. Emphasis of language of consensus on uniformity, shared values and common standards; Setting of too high a bar for ethical analysis and regulation of biomedical technologies by social consensus; Generation of insurmountable roadblocks in policy making; Need of dissenters and critics of government policies to be able to introduce moral claims to public debate; Need for a piece of legislation or public policy rather than forever waiting for the day when society reaches consensus.
