- Abstract
Introduction: In this paper, we report on a case in which the Kampo preparation Gorei-San (GRS) was effective in treating an infant suffering chronic subdural hematoma following acute subdural hematoma. Case: The case concern a nine-month-old girl, dropped accidentally by her mother. She suffered a cerebral contusion in the right frontal lobe and acute subdural hematoma on the right and left sides. Eleven days after the injury was incurred, chronic subdural hematoma was confirmed in the left frontal lobe, and we began administration of Tsumura GRS. Eighteen days after the injury, improvement in the hematoma was confirmed and we ceased treatment. Chronic subdural hematoma was again confirmed 57 days after treatment, so we recommended treatment with Tsumura GRS, and the hematoma had disappeared at 103 days. Conclusion: Other case reports have suggested that Tsumura GRS can reduce the need for surgical intervention in infants, and this case provides further evidence of its effects.
