- Abstract
The article discusses the discovery and relocation of two graves found in 1984 at Emigrant Springs State Park, located in Umatilla County, Oregon. The authors explain how they were part of the Sublette Cutoff Cartographic Expedition. The article talks about how the graves were discovered near water and how they were relocated by members of the Oregon-California Trails Association (OCTA). The authors detail the excavation of the graves, which began on August 12, 1985. The article also discusses burial customs of emigrants traveling the Oregon Trail and the author states that emigrants buried their dead quickly and not very well.
