- Abstract
Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is a severe viral disease that primarily affects the central nervous system. While historically rare in Western Europe, there has been a substantial increase in TBE cases observed this year. A recent commentary by Dr. Neyhazi and colleagues highlights the importance of considering the diagnosis, treatment, and regional strategies to prevent the disease. The European subtype of TBEV is associated with central nervous system involvement in 20-30% of patients, with up to 30% experiencing prolonged neurological issues. Mortality rates range from 0.5% to 2%.
